Honor Your Hunger
“If we sleep when we’re tired and drink when we’re thirsty, why don’t we eat when we’re hungry?”
The body communicates its needs, and hunger is one of the fundamental signals it provides. When you notice signs like thinking about food more frequently, struggling to focus, or experiencing stomach growling, it's essential to recognize these as cues to nourish yourself.
Take a moment to reflect on your current state of hunger. Many individuals find it challenging to assess this openly because of conditioning around what they "should" feel. Instead of getting caught in this mindset, focus on your body's actual sensations. Recognizing hunger is part of a healthy relationship with food.
Feeling hungry indicates that your body is actively using the energy you’ve previously provided and requires additional fuel. A helpful guideline is to aim to eat at least every 4-5 hours while you are awake. This practice can help maintain your energy levels and contribute to overall well-being.
Trusting your body is essential. Just as you listen to your body when it’s tired and allow yourself rest, extend that same understanding to your hunger cues. Embracing and responding to your body's needs can enhance your relationship with both food and yourself.
